NOV 15... A unique experience as we board the "Key West Express" for a 3 ½ hour Jet Boat ride to Key West, across the Gulf of Mexico. Arriving at noon, we have plenty of time to enjoy the tropical setting and "laid back life-style" of the Conch Republic. We are met at the dock upon arrival for a narrated tour of this southern-most island of America. Staying here for 2 nights, you have the choice of staying at the Fairfield Inn located outside of the historic district with breakfast included, or the Crown Plaza on Duval Street which is in the center of Old Town, and breakfast is not included here. (B)
NOV 16...This morning we explore the small island and learn of its famous visitors and residents, from Hemmingway to Buffet, from pirates to treasure hunters. We will have an opportunity to visit the home of the famous author, Ernest Hemmingway. Another highlight is a tour of the Little White House of President Truman. No visit to Key West is complete without going to Sunset at Mallory Square, with its carnival-like atmosphere, craft displays, and a perfect way to watch the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico. Afterwards, we enjoy a special dinner and a slice of Key Lime Pie. (B,D)
NOV 17...After breakfast, we begin our return to the mainland along the Keys, 100's of islands of various sizes leading to Key West. Islamorada, Long Key, Marathon, Big Pine Key. We stop at Pennekamp for a break at an underwater natural preserve of coral reefs. Later we approach the famed Everglades, and our group boards a large airboat for a thrilling ride into the fascinating, floating wilderness unique only to Florida. Tonight our group celebrates a wonderful trip with a Farewell Dinner in one of south Florida's fine restaurants. (B,D)
